From Challenges to Adventures: How the ATTO Gave Us Our Freedom Back

At Movinglife, we love hearing from our customers about how the ATTO has transformed their lives. Mobility challenges can make everyday activities feel overwhelming, but the right solution can open up a world of possibilities. That’s why we’re excited to share the inspiring story of Albert and Stefanie, a couple who refused to let mobility limitations hold them back from their passion for travel.

After a stroke, Albert’s mobility became restricted, making long walks and city explorations difficult. But rather than giving up on their dream of traveling across Europe in their camper van, they searched for a solution that would allow them to continue their adventures together. Their journey led them to the ATTO SPORT, a foldable mobility scooter that has given Albert renewed independence and allowed them to explore without limits. Read on to discover how the ATTO has changed their lives!

Can you tell us a little about yourself?

We are Albert (72) and Stefanie (56). In our “previous lives,” we were both managers. Now, we enjoy a quieter life in the countryside, living in an old watermill.

Two years ago, we decided to embrace a more adventurous lifestyle and bought a camper van. Since then, we have spent several months each year traveling across Europe. Some of our favorite destinations include Italy, Austria, the UK, Ireland, and France. Being on the road has given us a sense of freedom and discovery, but it has also presented challenges—especially when it comes to mobility.

What led you to consider getting a mobility scooter?

Albert had a serious stroke in 2020, which left his right side paralyzed. Fortunately, through rehabilitation and determination, he was able to walk again within a few months. However, ever since, his mobility has been limited—his pace is slow, his energy levels are low, and he often feels unsafe walking in crowded places like cities, museums, or even busy streets.

Our ability to explore is constrained. In urban settings, Albert can walk about 500 meters, but only with rest breaks. In open spaces, he can manage up to 1.5 kilometers at a slow pace, but again, frequent stops are necessary. Google Maps has become our constant companion—we check distances in advance to determine whether a destination is within Albert’s walking range or if alternative transport is needed.

Beyond mobility, Albert faces additional challenges. His field of vision is restricted, his memory is inconsistent, and he has cognitive and language limitations. Perhaps the hardest adjustment for him was losing his ability to drive. Living in a remote area, this loss has been deeply frustrating for him, as he is now entirely dependent on me for transportation.

He can still ride a bike—better than he can walk—but it’s not a practical solution. He can’t cycle on roads due to safety concerns, and pedestrian areas and footpaths aren’t suitable either. Additionally, his limited stamina makes uphill rides difficult. We once tried eBikes, hoping they might be the perfect solution, but unfortunately, that experiment ended in an accident and a trip to the hospital with a head injury.

Because of Albert’s cognitive limitations, I always accompany him. However, moving at such a slow pace has affected my own fitness. I worry about the long-term impact on my health since I no longer get the exercise I need.

When we travel, we tend to revisit places we’ve been before, as familiar locations help Albert reconnect with his memories. Yet, many attractions and sights remain out of reach simply because they require too much walking, and it’s a shame to miss out on these experiences.

How did you first hear about Movinglife and the ATTO mobility scooters?

Early on, I started researching mobility solutions online and came across the ATTO. At the time, it seemed like a great option, but we weren’t quite ready to take that step.

Years later, we had our first experience with a mobility scooter while visiting the Eden Project in Cornwall, UK. That was when we truly understood the potential benefits. It gave us the idea to explore scooters more seriously. Several months later, Albert finally felt ready, and I began researching again.

After comparing many options, the ATTO—and especially the ATTO SPORT—stood out as the most advanced foldable scooter on the market. We arranged a test, and as soon as we tried it, we knew it was the right choice. We bought it immediately.

Which Movinglife scooter do you own, and why did you choose that specific model?

We chose the ATTO SPORT because it can handle rougher terrain, has a faster speed, and can be locked up securely. For our lifestyle, those features were essential.

What stood out to you about Movinglife compared to other mobility scooter brands?

One major advantage is the ability to split the ATTO into two lightweight segments. This means I can easily lift and store it in our car or camper van without struggling with heavy lifting. The compact and practical design was a game-changer for us.

How has your ATTO scooter changed or improved your daily life?

It has made a huge difference. Now, we can take “normal walks” again without constantly worrying about distance. Instead of being limited by Albert’s endurance, we only need to consider the battery range.

More importantly, the ATTO has given Albert back some of his independence. He actually enjoys going out again, and he even walks more than he used to. In fact, we sometimes swap—he walks while I ride the ATTO for a bit. Since he knows he can always take a break and use the scooter when needed, he walks with more confidence and at a better pace. The result? He gets more exercise than before, and it’s great for his physical condition.

For me, the benefits are just as significant. Since the ATTO can reach speeds of up to 10 km/h, we move much faster than before. I no longer have to walk at an artificially slow pace, which means I can get real exercise again and maintain my own health.

What are your favorite features of your ATTO scooter?

There are several things we love about it:

Splits into two segments – Makes it easy to lift and transport.
Compact & travel-friendly – Fits perfectly in our camper van.
Trolley mode – Convenient for restaurants, public transport, and tight spaces.
Stylish design – It doesn’t look like a traditional mobility scooter.
Intuitive to use – Very user-friendly.
Lockable – Adds security when leaving it unattended.

Have you taken your ATTO scooter on any special trips or places where it made a big difference?

We haven’t had a chance yet, but we are excited to take it on our next camper van journey at the end of March, when we head to France. We’re looking forward to seeing how it enhances our travel experience.

What advice would you give to someone considering a mobility scooter, especially from Movinglife?

If you’re looking for a mobility scooter that balances compact design with real functionality, the ATTO is the perfect choice—especially if you need something that can be used with cars, trains, buses, or airplanes.

We hesitated at first because of the price, but then we thought about it logically: We wouldn’t hesitate to buy an eBike for the same amount. When we looked at it that way, the decision was easy—it’s an investment in quality of life.

Is there anything else you’d like to share about your experience with Movinglife and your ATTO scooter?

One thing we really appreciated was the option to test the ATTO at home before purchasing. That kind of customer service makes all the difference. Being able to try it in our everyday environment before committing gave us peace of mind and made the buying decision much easier.

All in all, the ATTO has transformed the way we move, and we’re excited to continue exploring the world with it.
