Movinglife is proud of its customers and their journeys. We recently discussed with Crystal Davis about her journey and how the ATTO folding mobility scooter has helped her.
Can you tell us a little about yourself and your mobility journey before getting the ATTO?
My name is Crystal Davis, and movement has always been a part of my identity. I was a former gymnast, professional dancer, and dance instructor, teaching jazz, tap, and ballet for over 30 years. However, in 2019, everything changed when I underwent a hysterectomy due to fibroids. Then, when COVID hit, my health rapidly declined. I had spinal surgery, followed by bilateral hip replacements, and eventually, I was diagnosed with multiple conditions, including fibromyalgia, POTS, HEDS, and perimenopause. These diagnoses explained why my body was falling apart, but they also meant my mobility and independence were slipping away.
What were some of the biggest mobility challenges you faced in your daily life before using the ATTO?
After my last hip surgery, even the simplest tasks became incredibly difficult—I struggled to sit up, stand, walk, take a shower, and even make it to the bathroom. Three years later, activities like cleaning, dancing, and exercising remain challenging. Before my surgeries, I walked my dogs multiple times a day and danced for hours on end. Now, my life looks very different.
Before I got my ATTO folding mobility scooter, I was missing out on life. I had to skip a family trip with my dad, and sadly, he passed away shortly after. I could no longer walk my dogs, navigate a grocery store, or explore fairgrounds. Even using my walker at my daughter’s graduation was a struggle—I had to sit in it while my husband wheeled me around. I was losing my freedom, and I knew I needed a solution.
How has the ATTO changed your ability to move around and stay independent?
The ATTO folding mobility scooter gave me back my independence. It arrived just in time for my 50th birthday, before a trip to visit my sister in Texas. I was able to bring it as a carry-on, making it easy to get through the airport. Since then, I’ve taken it everywhere—my son’s graduation, Costco, Kohl’s, grocery stores, hospitals, and even concerts like Paula Abdul and Janet Jackson. I’ve also traveled back to my hometown, San Diego, multiple times. The ATTO has made it possible for me to live again.
What features of the ATTO do you love the most, and why?
One of my favorite features is how easily it folds up like a suitcase. I can wheel it around, carry it onto a plane, or load it into my car by myself. That level of portability has made a huge difference, especially for hospital visits where mobility can be challenging.
How does the ATTO fit into your daily routine—whether it’s traveling, running errands, or spending time with family?
The ATTO has become part of my daily life. Whether I’m running errands at the grocery store, going to Costco, or spending time with my family, I now have the confidence to go out without worrying about my mobility. It’s also made traveling so much easier. I recently took it on a plane, and it was a lifesaver at the airport.
Has the ATTO opened up any new possibilities for travel or social activities that were difficult before? Can you share a memorable experience?
Absolutely! I wouldn’t be able to do half the things I do now without my ATTO. I’ve gone on trips, visited family, and even attended concerts—all things I thought I’d never be able to do again. And soon, I’m planning to take it to a huge rave dance party! That’s something I never imagined would be possible for me again.
What would you say to someone considering getting an ATTO but unsure if it’s the right choice for them?
If you’re struggling with mobility, don’t hesitate. The ATTO folding mobility scooter has been a game-changer for me. For people in the disability community, especially those with conditions like mine, getting an electric wheelchair prescription and insurance approval can be a long and difficult process. The ATTO gives you an alternative—an option that provides independence right away.
If you could describe the ATTO in one sentence, what would it be?
My ATTO folding mobility scooter has been a game-changer, opening up my world of accessibility.
